If you are searching for ammo near me in Cumming, Lakeside Munitions at 211 Atlanta Rd carries handgun, rifle, rimfire and shotgun ammo on shelves built into the wall under our long guns. Shelves change through the day as people buy, so this post covers what we carry, how to check what is on the shelf before you drive, and where to browse our online store by category.
This is not a price list. Prices and checkout live in our online store, and the counter can tell you what is on the shelf right now.
Ammo Near Me: The Kinds We Carry
We carry handgun ammo, including 9mm, rifle ammo, including .223 and 5.56 for AR-style rifles, rimfire ammo and shotgun shells. Here is how the groups break down, in plain words.
- Handgun ammo. Made for pistols and revolvers. Handgun ammo comes as practice rounds for the range and as self defense loads, and the two are built differently. Our post on FMJ vs hollow point explains the difference.
- Rifle ammo. Made for rifles, including .223 and 5.56 for AR-style rifles. Those two look alike on the shelf but are not the same round. Our post on 5.56 vs .223 covers it, so check it before you buy for a particular rifle.
- Rimfire ammo. Small rounds, most often .22, used in small rifles and pistols. See rimfire vs centerfire if you are not sure what the word means.
- Shotgun shells. On the shelves under our shotgun wall. Shells come in different gauges and loads, and our posts on shotgun gauges and buckshot vs birdshot help you pick.
Where things are in the shop. If you have never been in, the layout is simple. The ammo shelves sit right under the long gun walls: rifle ammo under the rifles, shotgun shells under the shotguns. Handguns sit in glass cases along the walls, with a few cases marked as preowned. There is an optics counter, and a case of suppressors. You can walk straight to the ammo, or ask the counter to pull a box for you.
How to Check What Is on the Shelf Today
Nobody likes driving across town for ammo that is not there. Here are the three ways to check before you go.
- Look at the online store. Our store has an ammo page at shop.lakesidemunitions.com. It shows what is listed, with prices and checkout. Prices live in the store, not on this website, so the store is the place to look.
- Call the counter. Tell us the caliber, whether you want practice rounds or self defense loads, and how many boxes. The counter can tell you what is on the shelf right now.
- Stop in. We are open Tuesday to Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM. We are closed Sunday and Monday. You can pay by credit card, debit card, cash or phone tap.
If you only have time for one, call. The store page and the shelf can differ, and the counter has the final word.

Who Can Buy Ammo, and What to Tell the Counter
Federal law sets the age rules for ammo sold by a licensed dealer. A dealer may not sell any ammunition to someone it knows or has reason to believe is under 18. For handgun ammunition, the line is 21. Rifle and shotgun ammunition is not covered by the under-21 rule. The rule is in 18 U.S.C. 922(b)(1), as of November 2026. This is general information, not legal advice.
You will also see an age check when you open our website or our online store, and both ask you to confirm you are 18 or older. If you are not sure about your own situation, ask at the counter before you make the trip.
Tell the counter your gun, not just your caliber. Ammo is easier to pick when we know what it is for. When you call or walk in, give us the make and caliber of your gun and say what you plan to do with the ammo: practice at the range, hunting, or self defense. That one sentence saves a lot of back and forth.
If you are new to guns, you do not need to know the words yet. Say what you own, or what you are thinking about buying, and we will point you to the right box. Our founders opened this shop because they were tired of the way most gun stores treat people, and a first-time question gets a straight answer here.
Stocking Up for a Range Day
If you are heading to the range, a few things make the stop quick:
- Count how many magazines you plan to load, then think about how many boxes that is.
- Bring the box you shot last time if you liked it, so the counter can match it.
- If you shoot a rifle with a scope, tell us. A new scope has to be sighted in before it is useful, and our post on how to bore sight a rifle shows the first step. We also bore sight for $15, and we mount optics for $45. Both prices are on our gunsmithing page.
- After a long day of shooting, the gun needs cleaning. A cleaning is $35, or $25 if purchased at Lakeside. Our post on how often to clean your gun tells you how often it needs one.
Cannot Find the Load You Want? Ask About a Special Order
If you do not see what you want, ask. We order firearms and accessories through our distributors, and if it is being made, we can usually get it. Ask the counter whether a certain load can be ordered. Special orders are paid in full when you place them, and you pick up at the shop. The full details are on our special orders page.
Before you drive over. Here is the short list:
- Know your gun’s make and caliber.
- Decide whether you want practice rounds or a self defense load.
- Call the counter to ask what is on the shelf.
- Check the hours above, since we are closed Sunday and Monday.
- Bring your own question. If you are unsure which round fits your gun, ask us before you buy, not after.
