Georgia suppressor law
Are suppressors legal in Georgia?
Yes. Suppressors are legal to buy and own in Georgia once your federal NFA transfer is approved. You must be 21 to buy one from a dealer, and legally allowed to own a firearm. We have moved over 500 of them since we opened in 2024.
Knowing it is legal is the easy part. The forms look like a nightmare, and nobody gives you a straight answer on how long approval takes.
At our Cumming shop you handle the suppressors first. We do the paperwork and fingerprints with you at the Silencer Shop kiosk in the store, and we tell you where you sit on the wait before you pay. Buy the suppressor here and there is no transfer fee.
What you get buying a suppressor here
- Handle the suppressors in person before you buy.
- Forms and fingerprints done with you in the shop.
- No transfer fee when you buy the suppressor from us.
- Honest approval ranges up front.
- A call from us the day your approval clears.
- Help deciding whether to file as an individual or through a trust, and help creating a trust for your future needs at the store.
- Trade in a gun toward it: trade value goes on your store account, and it works on suppressors too.
Form 4 wait times, from our own counter
Form 4 is the federal application that moves a suppressor to you. This is how long approval is taking for our customers right now. A Georgia Weapons Carry License does not shorten it: a suppressor needs NFA approval, then a standard 4473. We tell you where you stand before you pay.

5 out of 5 stars
Lakeside Munitions is definitely one of my favorite shops to purchase from. From the owner to the employees, theyre knowledgeable, very friendly and helpful. There are no pushy sales which I appreciate. Need a suppressor? They'll walk you through the process. ...
5 out of 5 stars
I do not live near this store and traveled nearly an hour, passing numerous other gun shops along the way, specifically to do business here. They were able to source a suppressor cover for me that was extremely difficult to find elsewhere, which immediately set them apart. When I arrived, I was impressed by how clean, organized, and well-run the store is. ...
Straight answers on suppressors
Did ATF stop requiring suppressor registration?
On October 9, 2026, ATF said it will stop enforcing federal approval and registration for suppressors. Its guidance does not override state law. Georgia law only allows a suppressor that is registered under the National Firearms Act (O.C.G.A. 16-11-122 and 16-11-124), and that law has not changed. So in Georgia the full Form 4 process still applies, and every suppressor we transfer still goes through registration.
How long do suppressor approvals actually take?
Filing as an individual, approvals are running 2 to 3 days right now, and they can take up to 21 days. Filing through a trust can take up to a month. Once you're approved, you fill out a standard 4473 and take it home. We will tell you where you stand before you buy, not after.
What does a suppressor cost all in?
Buy the suppressor from us and there is no transfer fee: you pay for the suppressor itself. The $100 transfer fee only applies to a suppressor bought from another store and shipped to us. One bought directly from Silencer Shop has no transfer fee either. The federal tax stamp has been $0 since January 1, 2026.
Is the NFA tax stamp still $200?
No. The federal tax stamp on a suppressor has been $0 since January 1, 2026. In Georgia, ATF approval and registration are still required before you take it home.
Do I need a trust to buy a suppressor in Georgia?
No. You can file as an individual or through a trust. Georgia is still an NFA trust state and the process has not changed. We will walk you through whether an individual filing or a trust makes more sense for your situation. We can help you create a trust for your future needs at the store.
Can I just walk in and buy a suppressor?
You can walk in, handle the suppressors, and get the paperwork started with us. You cannot take it home that day. In Georgia, every suppressor still needs ATF approval first, and we will tell you where you sit on the wait before you pay.
Do you handle the fingerprints and paperwork here?
Yes. We are a Silencer Shop Elite dealer, and there is a Silencer Shop kiosk in the store, so the paperwork happens here with a person next to you.
