To special order a gun, tell us the make and model you want, pay in full when you place the order, and pick it up at our shop in Cumming. We order through our distributors, so if it is being made, we can usually get it. That is the whole process on our side. The rest of this post covers what to have ready, what the order costs and what the law adds when you pick the gun up.
How a special order works at our shop
There are three steps.
- Tell us what you want. Call or stop in with the make and model. Special orders are paid in full when you place the order.
- We track it down. We order through our distributors, so if it is being made, we can usually get it. That goes for accessories as well as firearms.
- You pick it up. Collect it at the shop at 211 Atlanta Rd in Cumming.
Our special orders page has the same steps in short form, plus the request button for the contact form.
Special order or buy from the case? If the gun you want is in the case or on the wall when you walk in, you can buy it that day, and there is nothing to order. A special order is for the gun that is not there. Before you order, look at what we have on the shelf and in our online store, because a close match may already be here. If the exact make and model matter to you, order it. If you are flexible, ask us what is on hand first.
Firearms and accessories. A special order is not only for guns. We can order accessories the same way, such as parts and add-ons beyond what is in the case today. Give us the maker and part name, and say which gun it is for, so the order fits.
Who picks it up. The person buying the gun picks it up, in person, at the shop. Plan to bring your photo ID with you, and plan the trip for a day we are open. Our hours are on the contact page. We are closed Monday and Sunday, so check before you drive over, especially if you are coming from out of town.
What to have ready, and what to ask
You do not need much, but the more exact you are, the better the order goes. Know these before you call:
- The maker and the model name. For example, the full name as printed on the maker’s website, not a nickname.
- The caliber or gauge. Many models come in more than one.
- The finish, barrel length and any options. Makers often sell the same model in several versions, and the order has to name the right one.
- Any accessories you want with it. Say so up front, so we can order them together.
If you are not sure which version you want, ask us. We can talk through the choices at the counter before you pay.
Before you pay, it also helps to ask a few plain questions:
- What is the total price? Get the number for the exact model and options you named.
- Is the exact model still being made? If it is, we can usually get it. Ask if you are not sure.
- Do I need to bring anything when I pick it up? Yes: a valid government photo ID with a current address. More on the paperwork below.
Write the make, model and options down and read them back to us. A special order is paid in full when you place it, so it pays to be sure the order matches what you want.
What a special order costs, and how long it takes
It depends on the make and model you want. Tell us exactly what you are after, and ask us for the number before you commit. We do not guess at prices in a blog post, because they change with the gun.
One thing is fixed: you pay in full when you place the order. That is how we handle special orders.
Our layaway page covers a separate service with its own terms, at least 20% down and 30 days to pay it off. Ask us how it fits before you order.
How long will it take? We cannot give you one number, and we will not make one up. How long a gun takes depends on the maker and the distributor. Ask when you place the order, and we will tell you what we know. If you are not sure a model is still being made, ask before you pay.
What happens when it comes in
A special order is a purchase from a dealer, so the paperwork is the same as buying any gun from a dealer’s case. Federal law has three parts that matter.
You fill out ATF Form 4473. A licensed dealer completes a Form 4473 when it sells you a firearm (27 CFR 478.124). You fill it out at the shop, in person, when you pick up the gun.
A background check runs. Federal law requires a background check on a dealer sale (18 U.S.C. 922(t)). Bring a valid government photo ID with a current address.
There is an age rule. A dealer may sell a handgun to someone 21 or older, and a rifle or shotgun to someone 18 or older (18 U.S.C. 922(b)(1)).
If the check does not come back right away, our post on buying your first gun in Georgia explains what a delay means. This is general information as of November 2026, not legal advice.
Special order, online order or transfer, and NFA items
If you find a gun on a website and want it shipped, that is a different path. An online gun ships to a licensed dealer like us, and the dealer completes the paperwork. We call that a transfer, and it has its own flat fee. Our post on buying a gun online in Georgia explains it, and our FFL transfers page has the current fee. A special order is when you ask us to be the seller and order the gun for you.
Suppressors and NFA items. A suppressor or other NFA item follows a different set of steps, because it needs ATF approval before you can take it home. If that is what you are after, start with our suppressor page.
Ask before you pay
If you are not sure whether to special order, call with the make and model. We will tell you what we can get, and the number, before you commit. You can also send a request through our contact page and we will get back to you. Our special orders page has the short version.
